The first constituent assembly of the State Committee on Matters of Nationalities and Religions’ work group on rewording the law “on the freedom of worship and religious organizations” was held on 13 April 2009 on the committee’s premises, reports RISU.
Reps of various ministries, agencies and confessions, members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, and experts from the Institute of Religious Freedom all attended the meeting.
According to a plan developed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 18 February 2009, the new wording of the law is needed “to strengthen the legal basis for the freedoms of worship and confession” and is to be submitted for consideration to the Cabinet of Ministers in November.
